Accommodation and other resources

UEMC welcomes visiting scientists and students and offers accommodation to 12 people in three houses, and to 24 students in the hostel. Researchers’ houses are fully furnished with electricity, running water, self-contained bedrooms, cooking facilities, desks, sitting room. A large seminar room (150 m2) can be used by any organization or individuals at a cost of $40 per day. Fees for visiting researchers are $7 per day (or $210 a month) and $10 per day for visits of up to 3 days only. Fees for 2 people using a double room are 300 $ per month.

The hostel has been inaugurated at the beginning of 2010, and consists of a dormitory with 4 rooms each accommodating 6 people, and the adjacent, fully equipped dining and kitchen block. Fees for Tanzanian students/trainees: 6,500 Tanzanian Shillings for Bed & Breakfast (or 4,000 Shillings for bedding only) and 4,000 Shilling per meal (lunch or dinner). Fees for foreign students (minimum of 10 people): 15$ Bed & Breakfast and 6$ per meal (lunch or dinner). Groups are meant to visit for a structured training programme, linked to a University or equivalent training institute, and they are recommended to contact the relevant Tanzanian authorities for permits.

Visiting researchers have access to maps and resources in the office, including a small library and the Udzungwa GIS Database. Computer and printing facilities are available on request. Satellite internet connection is also available on request.
