Training courses
Training activities that are implemented or currently planned are the following:
- Training to park rangers, foresters and village scouts on monitoring methods (data collection, data recording, storage and management). In particular, a training module by the Ecology Department at the Udzungwa Mountains National Park will begin in mid-2007 with to establish a ranger-based monitoring programme. This will eventually be extended to adjacent Forest Reserves.
- Training for park ecologists and others who are responsible for coordinating monitoring programmes, managing and analysing data-bases in protected areas in Tanzania, with emphasis on forest parks.
- Training and teaching courses on biodiversity research and monitoring to graduate and under-graduate University students from Tanzania and abroad. For this component UEMC is liaising with organizations such as the Tropical Biology Association.
