Training courses

Training activities that are implemented or currently planned are the following:

  • Training to park rangers, foresters and village scouts on monitoring methods (data collection, data recording, storage and management). In particular, training to park rangers for the large mammal ranger-based monitoring and for use of GPS and GIS has been conducted in 2008,2009 and 2010 (see details here).
  • Training for park ecologists and others who are responsible for coordinating monitoring programmes, managing and analysing data-bases in protected areas in Tanzania, with emphasis on forest parks.
  • Training and teaching courses on biodiversity research and monitoring to graduate and under-graduate University students from Tanzania and abroad. For this component UEMC is liaising with local universities and relevant agencies, beginning in 2010 with the hostel functioning.
